Oklahoma City University Norick Art Center: Neurotransmissions

My exhibition, Neurotransmissions, explores a range of concepts related to shifting paradigms in neuroscience, quantum physics, and computer science to tell a story about our contemporary understanding of the human mind.

Viewers will encounters relationships between color theory and the function of neurotransmitters. Figure/ground relationships demonstrate how our brain “fills in” missing information as it makes predictions based upon past experiences. I also examine our anxious relationship with Artificial Intelligence by combining a self portrait in profile with a deconvolutional neural network. This type of neural network emulates a biological brain’s frontal lobe. These works are often steeped in the tradition of abstract painting and color theory, but also explore new territory by incorporating extended techniques, digital fabrication, and contemporary drawing methods. The exhibition prompts reflection about our current state of being, and our ever nascent relationship with knowledge which informs a cultural ethos that continually refashions our conception of the self.

The show is runs from May 5th to August 1st at the OCU Norick Art Center at Oklahoma City University.
